Self-catering dog-friendly holiday cottages in Ballater

Ballater sits in the heart of Royal Deeside, an area much loved by Queen Victoria with a range of dog-friendly cottages to be found nearby. Set in the eastern part of Scotland’s glorious Cairngorms National Park and just 8 miles from the royal residence at Balmoral, the pretty town of Ballater makes a lovely holiday destination with a range of self-catering accommodation available. Home of the stylishly rebuilt Old Royal Station, Ballater was founded in the 19th century as a planned agricultural town. Today this pet-friendly area has a number of great places to eat and drink as well as an excellent 18-hole golf course with stunning views across the Cairngorms. Nearby attractions include the Royal Lochnagar Distillery and Corgarff Castle.

A wonderful area for dogs and their owners, Royal Deeside features plenty of places for pets and their owners to explore. Keen walkers can head south to discover Loch Muick (11 miles) and the mountain of Lochnagar, which has inspired literature by both Byron and Prince Charles. There are plenty of chances to spot wildlife including red deer, golden eagles and grouse. Heading west and deeper into the Cairngorms you will reach Braemar, home of the annual Braemar Gathering and the historic Braemar Castle (17 miles). To the east is the fantastic Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve (6 miles), where you can explore Loch Davan, Loch Kinord, the Cambus o’ May woodlands, the Deeside Way, Craigendarroch Hill and the prehistoric Burn o’ Vat pothole. Explore all this and more with a stay in one of our Ballater dog-friendly holiday cottages.
