The picturesque village of Castleton in the Peak District National Park is home to many dog-friendly holiday cottages. From romantic rural retreats to large family homes suitable for family reunions, there is something for everyone, whatever your needs. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Hope Valley, most dog-friendly cottages in Castleton have a range of walking routes and trails on their doorstep for you and your four-legged friends to enjoy without getting in the car. Situated in the White Peak, with its steep dales and limestone plateaus, the landscape is breathtaking. The village itself is overlooked by Mam Tor, also known as Shivering Mountain, and ancient Peveril Castle, so there are some beautiful views and panoramas within a stone’s throw of most cottages.
As well as the sights above ground, the area surrounding Castleton is also known for its showcaves and caverns which guests can explore and enjoy, so be sure to pack your camera before leaving your self-catering accommodation in the morning. With so many dog-owners visiting the Peak District for its wealth of walking trails, not only are the holiday cottages pet-friendly, but the independent shops and eateries in the local towns/villages are too, so your canine companion will be welcome wherever you go. One such town is Chapel-en-le-Frith on the outskirts of the national park, often referred to as the ‘Capital of the Peak’; it has award-winning cafes/restaurants, a range of independent shops and several festivals/carnivals throughout the year.
