Stay at a self-catering dog-friendly holiday cottage in Cheddar. Cheddar is a village close to Cheddar Gorge, a natural landmark that has attracted visitors for centuries. Famous for its trails through the gorge itself and over the high hills above it, this is a great choice of holiday destination for you and your dog. As you may know, the world-famous Cheddar cheese originates in the village and it is matured in local caves too. It can be bought at outlets throughout the village, so you can take some samples back home for friends and family.
Wayfarers will love the many trails they can embark on from our Cheddar cottages. One of the best routes for exploration of Cheddar Gorge can be picked up at the National Trust shop and stretches for 4 miles. The caves are also worth a visit although, dogs are permitted inside the show caves. Gough’s Cave and Cox’s Cave are two of the UK’s best loved cave systems. Britain’s oldest excavated skeleton, the Cheddar Man was found in these caves. Long distance walkers may want to try a section of The Strawberry Line. The 30-mile traffic-free path spans Mid-Somerset from Clevedon to Shepton Mallet. The route follows the course of the former Cheddar Valley railway line, once used to transport strawberries to market. The village has a number of handy shops and dog-friendly pubs where you can enjoy a pint and a hearty meal after a day on the trail. Take a look at our large collection of Somerset holiday cottages that welcome dogs. Our Cheddar Gorge dog-friendly accommodation can be found in and around the village and the surrounding Mendip Hills AONB. Treat your dog to a pet-friendly holiday this year at one of our dog-friendly Somerset cottages.
