Holidays in the Lake District

Windermere is the ideal place for you and your four-legged friends to holiday, as there are so many dog-friendly cottages to choose from. Situated at the heart of the Lake District, Windermere is an excellent base from which to explore the breathtaking natural beauty of the National Park. After a restful night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast in your self-catering, pet-friendly holiday cottage, you and your canine companions will feel refreshed and ready for the day. Whether you stroll around a lake, hike up a fell or take to the water on a cruise or in a canoe – it’s entirely up to you.

Windermere is England’s largest lake and has many towns and villages along its shores. Bowness-on-Windermere is the largest and is very popular with tourists as it has a range of shops and eateries to stroll around. From here, you can catch the ferry across to Sawrey, where you’ll discover Hill Top, once home to well-loved author, Beatrix Potter. Nearby Hawskhead, which lies at the northern end of Esthwaite Water, also has a gallery and museum dedicated to her. Popular Grasmere is also nearby and famous for its unique gingerbread recipe as well as being William Wordsworth’s final resting place. With the beautiful scenery of the Lake District providing a perfect setting for walking, many people bring their dogs on holiday, so you will find that it’s not only holiday cottages that are pet-friendly, but businesses too.
