Grade II listed thatched cottage sleeping six, enjoying a beautiful village location in North Dorset, within walking distance of the village shop, pub, and restaurant.

This property is located in the village of Fontmell Magna, a pretty village with chocolate box cottages and a pub which specialises in offering local, sustainable food. Five miles to the north of the cottage, is the town of Shaftesbury with its picturesque cobbled streets, stunning architecture, an arts centre, and an interesting museum telling the story of the town’s abbey. The area surrounding the property has much to offer visitors, with many interesting places for day trips, including Longleat Safari Park, Salisbury Cathedral, the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Of course, the county has many beautiful beaches including those at Bournemouth, Sandbanks, and Lulworth Cove, all of which are less than thirty miles from the property.

This charming cottage is a perfect example of a thatched cottage and guests will love the characterful accommodation with its original features and cosy nooks. On entering through the thatched doorway, guests will first come to the lounge, a lovely retreat from the outside world, with its beamed ceiling and feature fireplace. There is a TV/DVDhere which guests can enjoy from the comfortable sofas. Passing a hidden reading nook, guests come to the dining room, which again has a beamed ceiling and a lovely cottagey-feel. The kitchen has an altogether different feel to the rest of the house, as thanks to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, the room is flooded with light and enjoys views over the garden. There is a second dining table here, and all the equipment that guests will need to prepare anything from a special meal to a simple breakfast, including a Range oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, there is even a TV and hi-fi. One of the property’s bedrooms is located on the ground floor of the property, a double room which is accessed via one step down from the kitchen. There is also a bathroom on this floor with a sumptuous roll-top bath, separate shower, and WC. Upstairs, there are two further bedrooms, the first of which is a double room with an en-suite WC, whilst the third bedroom is a twin room. Guests should be aware that, as is usual with this type of property, there are some low doorways and reduced head height around the cottage.

Outside, there is a wonderfully spacious south-facing garden to the rear of the property, which is mainly set to lawn, and makes a fantastic space for relaxing and playing. There is also a patio area overlooking the lawn which is accessed through the kitchen offering garden furniture and a BBQ. There is parking for two cars.

  •  3 bedrooms: 2 doubles (1 on the ground-floor) and 1 twin
