Romantic bolthole for the perfect getaway to Wales. Walkers and literary fans will get a kick out of staying in Clyro, because it is close to a few picturesque trails – it’s also by of Hay-on-Wye – home to countless book shops and a festival.

Set in the picture-perfect region just north of the Brecon Beacons National Park, in the village of Clyro, you will get a great flavour of Welsh life. A mile or two away from Hay-on-Wye, you’re bound to find any book you can think of. Try out Booth’s bookshop with its small cinema and café. The town is full of tiny wonders and try to time your visit for when the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival kicks off – it’s one of the best in the country. Why not hike to the summit of Pen-y-Fan, the highest point in South Wales. Train enthusiasts will love the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway; also, don’t miss out on the Big Pit Mining Museum.

The house adopts open plan living with a separate shower room downstairs and plenty of space and storage throughout for two people. The living area has ample seating in front of the wood burner and TV/DVD, there is also an iPod dock. The kitchen/living area is a modern fitted kitchen with all the equipment, crockery and cutlery you need. There is a sink, a two-burner electric induction hob and oven, microwave, a kettle, toaster and a fridge with ice box. The work surface doubles up as a breakfast bar which makes a nice spot for leisurely meals. The bathroom is on the ground-floor, it comes complete with shower cubicle and WC.  Upstairs is the star feature; its ‘room with a view’ with plenty of natural light filling the room due to its panoramic stretch of windows and king-sized double bed. There is a cloakroom off the bedroom, a full-length mirror, wardrobe and storage cupboards that run the length of the room.

Outdoor dining is a real treat with a choice of the courtyard and two decking areas all perfectly placed to soak up the atmosphere and the landscape. A BBQ and garden chairs are provided for those extra special sunshine days and sultry evenings. Watch out a friendly cat, who pays visits to the property – (please don’t let him inside!) There is parking for one car by the woodpile close to the cottage.

This is a wonderfully cosy holiday cottage. Absolutely stunning views, close to Hay on Wye, and great hosts! Highly recommend it. We stayed for a week and had loads to do: lots of walking and exploring the Brecon Beacons, but it would also be super for a weekend getaway.
