Bognor Regis seafront

Bognor Regis is a traditional British seaside resort found along the Sussex coast. Bursting with olde-worlde charm, you can enjoy long walks along the promenade and relax and play on the clean pebble and shingle beach. The seafront is home to small cafes, restaurants, games arcades, and chippys. Bognor Regis is perfect for fun family holidays, and children will love the mini train ride that runs along the town esplanade. The town has earnt itself the ‘nickname’ of England’s ‘sunshine capital’ because it enjoys a higher than average number of sunny days.

Bognor Regis has the South Downs on the doorstep, with over 3000 kilometres of well-maintained and signposted woodland and country trails for trekkers, cyclists and those on horseback. The South Downs Way is a 100-mile path that runs between the white chalk-cliffs at Eastbourne (in East Sussex) and the leafy streets of Winchester (in Hampshire). It’s a good walking challenge for even the moderately fit. If you're looking for wildlife, prehistoric earthworks, fine pubs and pretty villages, a jaunt along the local section of path is a must.

“Bognor Regis is known as England’s sunshine capital…”

Other attractions in and around Bognor Regis include Bignor Roman Villa, the impressive remains of a 3rd century AD house with evidence of mosaic floors and a hypocaust system. There is a welcoming visitor centre with exhibitions and displays, as well as access to some historical Georgian-era buildings with thatched roof and circular walls.

The town has a lovely theatre with a solid programme of live events including bands, stand up comedy and cabaret. The independent Picturedome Cinema is also worth a look on a rainy day.

Bognor Regis is sheltered in the lea of Selsey Bill which is a wild peninsula, home to wildlife, birds and fishing lakes. The village of Selsey is at the head of the promontory, called the Manhood Peninsula. Walk from the RNLI lifeboat station around the coast along the long expanses of beach, punctuated by groynes.

The cathedral city of Chichester is within short driving distance and offers history, culture, evening entertainment, shops and restaurants galore. This is the only city in West Sussex and is home to some of the country’s oldest churches.

If you want to see more Roman ruins and artefacts stop by The Novium Museum which showcases all that remains of a Bath House. Also visit Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens, here you’ll find the largest collection of mosaics from this period, in the world. Lovers of sandy beaches need to journey to The Witterings, just along the coast from Selsey. The small dunes and endless space promise seclusion, fun and relaxation in the sun.
