Packed with racing heritage and beautiful parks, Bourne is a superb place from which to base yourself for a Lincolnshire holiday. An ever-growing market town, it is located in the south of the county and boasts a rich, cultural history, and an array of shops, restaurants and woodland areas.

The links to racing are evident across the whole area; English Racing Automobiles (ERA) and British Racing Motors (BRM) were both built in the town, both of which are synonymous with world-class Formula One racers Sir Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill, whilst the town's Heritage Centre also has an entire floor dedicated to the history the town shares with motor racing.

The Heritage Centre was once known as Baldocks Mill, but now has three floors filled with interesting artefacts and exhibitions surrounding various notable events and links to the town. It is free to enter, and located on the main street in Bourne.

The War Memorial Gardens offer an immaculately kept environment in which to enjoy tranquility and beautiful scenery. Big kids and little kids alike will love feeding the ducks along the river, as well as the play area. The memorial itself stands as a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made during the war, and is a poignant feature in the grounds.

The nearby village of Manthorpe is home to another striking feature - Bowthorpe Oak. The ancient oak tree is hollow and hugely wide, featuring in both the Guinness Book of Records and the Domesday Book.

For more woodland to wander through, Bourne Woods has miles of marked out trails as well as a sculpture pathway, ideal for family walks.

"An ever-growing market town, it is located in the south of the county."

Grimsthorpe Castle is located close to the town, with stunning, manicured grounds to explore and a multitude of events throughout the year held both within the gardens and the castle itself. Take a guided tour during the week, or head there on a Sunday for a solo stroll, and visit the café for a well-earned coffee and slice of cake following your cultural enlightenment.

Small but mighty, the family-run Wild Heart Café is the perfect destination for a relaxed lunch or dinner. The secluded location of the café in the Angel Precinct makes it a peaceful place for a bite to eat, whilst the food and drink on offer frequently receive rave reviews from visitors.

Alternatively, for a dinner with a difference, Gurkha 91 is a renowned restaurant serving Nepalese and Indian food with fantastic gluten free and vegetarian options on offer.

The picturesque market town of Spalding is just a few miles from Stamford, where you will also find Springfields Shopping Outlet Centre for an array of discounted brands. Further afield just across the county border is Peterborough, which is also well-worth a visit.
