Cleethorpes is a charming seaside resort with a sandy beach and plenty of fun family attractions.

The town overlooks the Humber estuary, in north-east Lincolnshire. As you explore the bustling promenade with its ice cream stands and arcades, you can see shipping traffic coming and going from the nearby ports of Grimsby and Hull. Cleethorpes is home to a theme park, zoo and plenty of interesting shops to explore.

Cleethorpes is full of fun family attractions. Don’t miss Pleasure Island, where you’ll find white-knuckle rides including the Boomerang and Obliterator, as well as a good selection of mellower attractions, such as a dazzling display by African acrobats, and a charming show of sea lions and parrots.

For a unique view of the area, climb aboard the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. A beautifully preserved steam engine will take you on a four-mile circuit around the town before dropping you back at the station, where you’ll find the Signal Box, the world’s smallest pub. Considering its size, it has an extremely well stocked bar, with 20 different ciders and a variety of beers and ales from around the UK.

You’re never far from a wide open space in Cleethorpes. The boating lake is a great place to fish, row or enjoy a picnic. There’s also a café, sandpit and plenty of geese and ducks to feed. Haverstoe Park is also worth a visit, with a pretty sensory garden, tennis courts and excellent play area. Skegness Beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for its excellent water quality, facilities and safe environment. With a vast expanse of sand, it’s never hard to find a secluded spot to lay down a towel and catch some sun.

If you’re after a traditional pub with a good selection of local ales and a nice beer garden, look no further than the Smuggler’s Inn, a long-standing favourite among Cleethorpes locals.
