Drummond Castle GardensCrieff is primarily known to the world for its Famous Grouse whisky and the bewitching Scottish valley countryside. Located in southern Perthshire, the town is also a perfect base for those who love a cycling or walking holiday. Beautiful waterside views await along the River Earn and from the summit of the Knock of Crieff.
Crieff is an old market town and its history can be traced all the way back to prehistoric times. In the 16th to 18th centuries it was famous for the Tryst, an annual market at which cattle from all over the Highlands and Islands were sold. You can learn more about the Tryst and other historical events at the Crieff Visitor Centre. Also, stop by to pick up useful tips and local knowledge.
Perthshire landscape
Each October, Crieff hosts the Drovers Tryst Festival, which offers fun for all the family. Walks dominate the festival and those that join in get to follow the trails of the cattle-drovers of the 1700s. The walks vary in terms of accessibility but cross some breathtaking Perthshire scenery. There is also a programme of interesting and fun evening events to accompany the walks. One of the most popular local walks is to The Knock of Crieff. It’s a wooded hill that towers over the town, with a short yet steep ascent, and it’s worth the climb for the gorgeous views across Strath Earn. There is also a pleasant circular walk from the top to reveal more beautiful Perthshire countryside.
Crieff has a great golf course that attracts locals and visitors alike, it’s enriched by views of the glens and is well worth stopping by for a game. Distillery tours are availalble at The Glenturret, which invites the public to see how their whisky is made, and sample a dram, of course!
“The countryside around Crieff is some of the most eye-catching scenery in the UK…”

Also, try The Deil’s Cauldron, an interesting restaurant with a mixture of traditional and foreign dishes available throughout the day.
