Deal is located in Kent, on the English Channel. This former fishing and mining town was once one of the UK’s busiest ports. Today, it’s a charming seaside resort, with narrow streets, a traditional pier and a towering Tudor castle. Deal is a delightful place to explore by foot, with a traffic-free centre and award-winning High Street, packed with interesting shops and welcoming places to stop for a bite to eat. Don’t miss Deal Pier, Kent’s last remaining pleasure pier and a listed building, where you can enjoy stunning views of the coast and dine in style at its modern restaurant. Another must-see is Time Ball Tower, which dates back to the 1800s and was originally built as a semaphore tower.
One of the most important dates in Deal’s calendar is the excellent Deal Festival, a music and arts event which is held at the end of June and beginning of July every year. You can expect to see some of the country’s best classical musicians perform at a variety of venues around the town.
One of Kent’s most impressive historical attractions is undoubtedly Deal Castle, which was built by King Henry VIII and is considered to be one of the finest Tudor artillery castles left in the UK. To delve deeper into the town’s fascinating past, visit Deal Museum, where you’ll find a remarkable collection of artefacts which celebrates the area’s maritime history.

One of Deal’s most popular restaurants is Victual’s and Co., which serves classic dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Another Deal favourite is Chequer’s, which combines traditional British cuisine with South African specialities. For a full English breakfast or an evening meal with a sea view, try Jasin’s Restaurant, on the end of Deal Pier. There are some great pubs in Deal. One of the best is The Just Reproach, which serves a selection of real ales and Kentish cider, and takes pride in its friendly, traditional environment.
Deal is an ideal base from which to explore some of Kent’s most interesting towns, including Dover, Sandwich, Margate and Ramsgate. If you fancy venturing further afield, London can be easily reached by public transport.
