Whether you’re hopping into a boat from Town Quay to venture across the water, or wandering along Fore Street to browse quaint shops, galleries and eateries, Fowey is a perfect holiday destination for families, couples and groups.

With its deep water harbour, Fowey has long been a popular spot for sailing. Many boat trips also run from the town to Cornwall hotspots such as Polruan and Mevagissey. Keen walkers may wish to venture along the South West Coast Path. From Fowey, you can access routes through Bodinnick and Polruan, passing azure water, rocks and an array of wildlife.

For a beach day, Fowey is in a prime location near some of Cornwall’s most tranquil swimming spots. Visit Par Sands, Polkerris, Readymoney Cove, Lantic Bay or Landsallos Beach for a day in the sunshine.

Visiting with family? Fowey Aquarium offers a traditional day out and features displays of beautiful local marine life. If you’d like to explore Fowey’s fascinating heritage, pay a visit to St Catherine’s Castle . Set above the rugged Cornwall coastline, the castle is one of a pair of small artillery forts built in the 1530s to defend Fowey Harbour. This is a perfect place to stop for a picnic on a sunny day. Need to pick up some ingredients for your lunch? Fowey’s town centre is packed full of delis and shops selling Cornish cheeses, meats and chutneys.

We can’t discuss Fowey without mentioning food. Eclectic eatery the King of Prussia is set on the quay, in the town’s bustling centre. Tuck into the Prussia’s posh picnic, with homemade duck Scotch eggs, root vegetable crisps, chicken liver pate, olives, piccalilli, Cornish smoked cheese and mixed bread. The menu is truly outstanding. To sample the local delicacy, Fowey river mussels, be sure to visit The Lugger Inn in Polruan.

Fowey’s perfect location on the Cornwall coastline means you can easily venture to nearby towns and villages. If you are exploring out of the area, you’re not too far from Polruan, St Austell, Mevagissey and Lostwithiel.
