Gloucester is a lively town bursting with a rich history which dates back centuries and can be seen in the beautiful architecture of the town centre. Set on the banks of the River Severn you can take a leisurely waterside walk along The Severn Way. The town has an excellent choice of fun and games from a little café culture and shopping to some great sporting opportunities. Choosing one of our Gloucester holiday cottages means you can watch the rugby or try some outdoor pursuits in the countryside. The Regency town of Cheltenham is nearby for great parks and cosmopolitan style.

A bustling county town, the city of Gloucester enjoys a rich history dating back to Roman times and with a great many ancient buildings to explore there’s plenty to see and do. One such attraction is the beautiful Gloucester Cathedral; not only the burial place of King Edward II, the 900 year old Norman Cathedral has in more recent years seen its profile raised through the Harry Potter films. Used as the location for filming the interior shots of Hogwarts, many fans now flock to the area to ensure they too can experience the magic of Harry Potter too.

Aside from the famous cathedral there’s an abundance of fine attractions to ensure its visitors are kept entertained; located along the River Severn and set against the backdrop of some of England’s most awe-inspiring countryside, Gloucester offers a number of appealing walking trails to embark on, suitable for both novice and seasoned walkers. The Severn Way is Britain’s longest riverside walk and can take you great lengths from its source in the stunning Plynlimon Mountains through to the Bristol Channel.

The city itself, though ancient, benefits from all the amenities you’d expect from a modern and vibrant area; with a dynamic café culture and diverse range of restaurants to explore, you’re sure to find yourselves spoilt for choice. Offering an eclectic mix of traditional and modern eateries, relax in one of the many quaint café’s overlooking the imposing cathedral or indulge in something more lively at the Quays Designer Outlet.

Shopping is one of Gloucester’s biggest draws and there is plenty of choice whatever your taste. For those looking for an eclectic mix of treasures, head to the Westgate Quarter; one of the oldest parts of the city, Westgate offers a wonderful mix of independent boutiques. For high street favourites, there are two shopping centres, Gate Streets ‘The Mall’ and King’s Walk; whilst the Quays Designer Outlet is the perfect place to pick up a designer label bargain.

A great location for a West Country break, Gloucester offers the best of both worlds, all the hubbub of city life, starkly contrasting to the tranquil settings of its many surrounding towns and villages which are all within easy reach.
