With centuries of maritime history and a wealth of magnificent architecture, King’s Lynn is undoubtedly one of Norfolk’s most interesting towns.

King’s Lynn is a majestic sea port and market town in Norfolk, 44 miles west of Norwich. As you explore this bustling town, you’ll discover evidence of its past as one of England’s most important ports. The cobbled lanes which run down to the River Great Ouse are lined with beautiful merchants’ houses, while the impressive Custom House overlooks the historic harbour. At the heart of King’s Lynn are two market places: Saturday Market Place and Tuesday Market Place.

For a unique view of the town’s beautiful quayside take the King’s Lynn Ferry to West Lynn, on the other side of the River Great Ouse. The service has been running since the 1200s and departs regularly from King’s Lynn Terminal on Ferry Lane.

King’s Lynn is home to a variety of excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants, serving classic British food and cuisines from all over the world. Marriot’s Warehouse is a welcoming café and restaurant at South Quay, serving a variety of local meat and fish dishes. The views across the river from the first floor bar are hard to beat and there’s an outdoor quayside dining area for when the sun’s shining.

If you’re after a hearty breakfast, look no further than Carousel Café, a hit among King’s Lynn locals thanks to the consistently high quality of its dishes and very reasonable prices. If you’re in the mood for a lovely, village pub, try The Victory Inn, in nearby Clenchwarton. Expect a lively atmosphere, good selection of local ales and extensive menu of well cooked pub classics.

King’s Lynn is a fun place for an evening out, with live music venues, a charming old cinema and the excellent King’s Lynn Arts Centre, which hosts a year-round programme of dance, music and film.

King’s Lynn is a great base for exploring Norfolk. With its shops, history and culture, nearby Norwich is a fun place to visit for the day. Also easily reached are miles of unspoilt coast, dotted with secluded coves and pretty fishing villages.
