Sitting proudly on a hill above the river Tywi in Camarthenshire is the characterful town of Llandeilo. Recently named as, ‘one of the best Welsh towns to live’ by the Sunday Times, it boasts beautiful pastel coloured houses surrounded by spectacular castles and gardens.

You will find excellent independently-owned shops ranging from boutique clothes and homeware stores to exquisite ice cream and chocolate shops. There are several delis, cafes and restaurants selling delicious local produce along with an award-winning brewery.

Llandeilo is within easy reach of outstanding walking country. It is the perfect location to appreciate breath-taking beauty whilst discovering enchanted rural and coastal scenery in Camarthenshire. The Brecon Beacons National Park is a short drive away, as are the magnificent landscapes of the Camarthenshire Fans and Black Mountain.

It is also equidistant to many of South Wales’ coastal gems. Hop in the car and head off for the day to explore the sandy beaches and rugged cliff tops of The Gower Peninsula, Mumbles, Swansea, Camarthen or Laugharne, the home of great Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas. Only an hour’s drive away you will find the delightful seaside resorts and bays of Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire, which are particularly known for their legendary coastal scenery. Beachcombers, wildlife-watchers, walkers and outdoor adventurers will be in their element here.

Those interested in exploring the history of this fascinating part of Wales will be spoilt for choice. Admire the largest single arch stone bridge in Wales in the centre of the town then take a lovely walk to Dinefwr Castle and Newton House, with their impressive hilltop views. Surrounded by 800 acres of tranquil parkland where fallow deer and Dinefwr White Park cattle roam free, it is perfect to while away some peaceful hours. Not forgetting the beautifully romantic Carreg Cennen Castle in the nearby village of Trap with its spell-binding views of the Camarthenshire countryside.

For a fun, family day out there is the National Botanic Garden of Wales, which holds an inspiring range of themed gardens along with a tropical butterfly house, play areas and a national nature reserve.
