New Quay

New Quay is a beautiful seaside town in the Welsh county of Ceredigion. Visitors are drawn to the town by its historic harbour and long sandy beach, from which the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay can often be spotted.

There’s plenty to see and do in New Quay, including an excellent heritage centre and renowned marine wildlife centre. Also worth a visit is New Quay Honey Farm, which is Wales’ largest bee farm.

A number of exciting annual events draw thousands of visitors to the town, including the famous Cardigan Bay Regatta, which has been taking place since the 1800s and features swimming, rowing and cruiser racing. New Quay is also well known for its connections with Wales’ best loved poet, Dylan Thomas.

The town centre is a lovely place to explore by foot, with plenty of independent shops and eateries to discover. New Quay has a rich history of fishing, smuggling and shipbuilding, signs of which can still be found in the historic harbour and architecture.

A great way to see the spectacular coast of Ceredigion is to book a place with Dolphin Survey Boat Trips. Climb aboard their boat, Orca, for a one-hour trip along the Marine Heritage Coast, which is famous for its wealth of wildlife, including bottlenose dolphins.

“Dolphins can often be spotted from the harbour and beaches of New Quay as they race along the Ceredigion coast.”

There are some excellent places to eat in New Quay, including traditional cafés, cosy pubs and award-winning restaurants. For a slice of homemade cake and a good cup of coffee, it’s hard to beat Bosun’s Locker, a family-run café in the heart of the town. For a plate of fresh seafood, check out the Hungry Trout, a renowned restaurant, serving fish from Cardigan Bay.

Our New Quay cottages are perfectly located for exploring the ruggedly beautiful coast of Wales. Some of the coastline’s most interesting towns and villages are easily reached. A short distance northwards from New Quay is Aberaeron, a charming resort with a pretty harbour and stunning, windswept beach. A little further north is Aberystwyth, a lively market town with plenty of shops, eateries and history to explore. Also well worth a visit is Llangrannog, a pretty holiday resort with a sheltered bay and cluster of cottages, looking out to sea.
