Portreath coast

Portreath falls into the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a village which seems to cling to the river valley leading down to the pretty harbour and beach. The stream running towards the sea through the secluded beach is an unusual and striking sight.

The nearby Cornish Goldsmiths, Tehidy Country Park, The Mineral Tramway Trails and selection of Blue Flag beaches make Portreath an idyllic spot for a holiday in one of our holiday cottages.

During the 19th century the port exported thousands of tons of copper and imported coal to feed the mining engines but now only shelters the occasional fishing boat. Much of the harbour at Portreath remains today with it’s jetties, Pilot’s lookout and cast iron capstans.

Portreath's rugged coastline

The cliffs in the area are made up of slate and sandstone and provide many opportunities for scenic walks. The neighbouring Blue Flag beach at Porthtowan is a favourite with surfers. As one of the more exposed beaches on this stretch of the Atlantic coast it produces powerful waves.

There is plenty of scope to enjoy the sports and leisure facilities which are within a short drive. Whether you prefer golf, swimming, horse riding or bowls you will find all your needs catered for.

Tehidy Country Park, a beautiful 250 acre woodland park, is just a mile or so away, with around 9 miles of nature trails to explore along with bridleways and tracks for mountain bikes. Several ponds and an attractive lake are home to swans and various breeds of ducks. The Park is open to the public all year round.
