Robin Hood's Bay

The small picturesque fishing village of Robin’s Hood Bay set off the edge of the Yorkshire Moors is said to be one of the most popular, charming and beautiful villages in the county.

Just a stone's throw from the pretty seaside town of Whitby, the village boasts a raw and beautiful part of the Yorkshire coastline. Ragged cliffs tower over the huddled cosy fishermen’s cottages with pantile red roofs that fall all the way down to the water’s edge. The village has the presence of being lost in time, offering an abundance of unspoilt architecture and breathtaking scenery in which to immerse yourself in.

Steeped in history with dramatic ‘scars’ (Nordic for rock) surrounding the bay, the area tells a story of an ancient fishing village that reportedly during the 18th century had the busiest smuggling community on the Yorkshire coast. You can learn all about its shipping and geological past in the local museum or pop by the visitors centre located in the Old Coastguard Station to get a real sense of the stories and local legends.
