A bustling market town with lots to offer

Perfectly placed to explore South Lincolnshire and the wider area, Spalding is a picturesque town packed with independent boutiques, historical architecture and a fantastic flower festival.

Its range of shops, markets and diverse surrounding landscapes means there's something for everyone to enjoy, and plenty to keep you busy on a break away.

Close to the southern border of the county, Spalding is full of history and striking buildings; its distinctive blend of Georgian terraces, churches, museums and a poignant war memorial create an interesting and culturally rich destination. The church of St Mary and St Nicholas dates back to the 13th century, whilst the Grade I listed building of Ayscoughfee Hall was built in the 15th century and, after several other uses across hundreds of years, now operates as a museum.

The war memorial is also located within the grounds of Ayscoughfee Hall, commemorating over 200 men that died during the First World War. The captivating Stone of Remembrance acts as a sobering reminder of the town's involvement and sacrifice during the Great War.

The beautifully diverse scenery of the town is one of its main appeals, with the River Welland running through the centre of it. Walks alongside the flowing water on tree-lined paths are stunning whether in the blossoming season of spring or with the crunching leaves underfoot in autumn. For more luscious landscapes you can head to the Wash Estuary, a protected section of coast with a plethora of rare wildlife.

For a different perspective of Spalding, the water taxi is a relaxing mode of transportation. The 30-minute cruise from just outside the town centre allows you to sit back and enjoy your surroundings, before arriving at the popular Springfields Outlet Shopping Centre.

"Its range of shops, markets and diverse surrounding landscapes means there's something for everyone to enjoy."

Filled with an abundance of shops offering high-end brands and discounted prices, as well as attractions, restaurants and events, it is popular with tourists coming from near and far.

The outlet centre is also home to the Spring Flower Show, where the town's reputation as being one of the biggest contributors to the UK flower industry is showcased in an explosion of vibrant colours and phenomenal scents from the thousands of locally grown tulips and other species of plant.

If all of the exploring gets you hungry for some homegrown goods, stop off at The Kitchen just outside Springfields. Their locally sourced food is a key element in their delicious home-cooked dishes, serving up fantastic plates of food from breakfast through to dinner.

Alternatively, for a taste of Europe, Amici is a renowned Italian restaurant in the town known for its varied menu, excellent service and sumptuous pasta creations.

There's plenty to keep everyone busy in and around Spalding, but if you're looking to venture further afield during your stay in the area, Peterborough is just across the county border, or the picturesque King's Lynn is just a short drive into Norfolk.
