Anne Hathaway's Cottage

Stratford-upon-Avon is a beautiful riverside town, best known for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

This historic market town is located on the banks of the River Avon, 22 miles southeast of Birmingham. In 1564, the UK’s most celebrated playwright, William Shakespeare, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. Today, millions of tourists visit every year to explore the town and visit the five houses to which he was connected. The countryside surrounding the Stratford-upon-Avon is remarkably unspoilt and home to a number of magnificent historical attractions, including Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, and one of the UK’s finest Baroque homes. The area is great for walking, cycling and a range of other outdoor pursuits.

A visit to Stratford-upon-Avon would be incomplete without having a look at Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a well preserved, pink house on Henley Street. A pass can be bought which gives you access not only to this house, but to the four others which Shakespeare was connected to during his life in the town. Mary Arden’s Farm was where Shakespeare’s mother grew up, and now offers visitors an insight into what daily life at a Tudor farm was like. Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Gardens is where the great playwright courted his future bride and is a delightful place to visit. Hall’s Croft was the elegant home of Susanna Shakespeare and Harvard House is an opulent Elizabethan town house with connections to Shakespeare’s family.
