The seaside town of Troon
The most northern of Ayrshire’s seaside towns, Troon in Scotland is home to soft, sandy beaches which offer breathtaking views over to the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig.
Perfect for a relaxing holiday by the sea, this quaint coastal town retains plenty of traditional seaside charm while offering a wonderful array of modern amenities and entertainment. Head to the bustling harbour where you can pick up some locally caught fish and seafood from the fish market or take a seat in one of the cafes, pubs and restaurants where you’ll find the daily catch adorned over the specials boards. Within the town, you will also find a great selection of unique, independent shops, a swimming pool, and Troon Concert Hall which hosts a variety of live music and events throughout the year.
Those seeking a more active holiday in Scotland can take advantage of Troon Yacht Haven which provides fantastic facilities for sailing enthusiasts, or you can head to the golden sands of Troon Beach where windsurfing and kitesurfing are available. Troon is also synonymous with golf, home to a staggering six golf courses, including Royal Troon which regularly hosts The Open Championship. And if you fancy donning your walking boots, the town is located close to the Ayrshire Coastal Path which means you can easily explore the islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae, looking out for rare and beautiful wildlife and birds along the way.

As well as lots of opportunities for outdoor adventure, there is an abundance of exciting attractions to discover locally too. Ayr Racecourse is just down the road with a full calendar of racing events, including the Scottish Grand National, or for some history, you could explore the birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard, in Alloway. Other fascinating nearby attractions include Culzean Castle and Country Park, Dundonald Castle, the Scottish Maritime Museum, and Dalgarven Mill.
