This tasteful cottage is ideally situated in the popular village of Hawkshead, with numerous notable attractions, and walks to ramble.

There is a choice of pubs in the village, home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the grammar school where William Wordsworth was once a pupil. Hawkshead also has a selection of interesting shops and plenty of places to eat out. The village enjoys a prime location at the heart of the region, with both Lake Windermere and Coniston being a short drive away. Not to be missed is a visit to Claife Viewing Station, just a ten-minute drive away, a purpose-built viewing platform which offers majestic views over Lake Windermere.

Entering through the side-porch of the property, guests will come to the first of two living areas: the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This room has a contemporary feel and has deep, comfortable sofas from which to watch the TV or simply relax in front of the wood burner. The dining table seats six and is situated by the French windows which lead out to the garden. The kitchen is well-equipped with an oven, electric hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A second, separate lounge at the front of the property looks out over a neighbouring fields and has an open fire, comfortable seating, TV, and DVD. There is also a WC on the ground floor. On the first floor, guests will find three bedrooms: a double, a twin, and a single room. The bathroom is also on the first floor, and benefits from both a bath and separate shower, as well as a WC.

Outside, there is an enclosed garden with a patio area with table and chairs, where guests can enjoy al fresco dining. There is off-road parking for two cars as well as bike storage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Great cottage, with a quiet location, yet very handy for the short walk into the village for pubs and dining out. Good dog-friendly pubs several of which allow dogs in the bar area when eating out. Easy access to country walks straight from the cottage, 3 miles to Wray Castle which is on the shore of Windermere. Ambleside, Coniston and lake WindermRead moreere are all within easy driving distance. It's great place to stay. Hide

Welcoming, well appointed, great location. Everything you need close by - Coop food shop, gift shops, places to eat, outdoor wear shops. The social area - lounge/dining table/kitchen was great for during the day The front lounge was cosy to watch TV/DVD's in, in the evening. Garden ideal for our labrador to sniff around in. A lovely place to stay, comfortable, well equipped and an ideal base from which to explore the southern lakes. Excellent walks on the doorstep, so there's no need to drive anywhere and the village boasts a very well stocked Co-Op, 4 pubs and a number of tea rooms and cafes.

Lovely cottage in a great location. The cottage was warm and homely, plenty of space, good parking and walking straight from the front door. Hawkshead is pretty village with 4 pubs , a small supermarket, specialty shops and is only a 2 minute walk from the property. We will definitely be back, thanks

Comfortable cottage with attractive views and yet a 3 minute walk to the local co-op which is open until 10 pm. Pleasant walks from the door including a proper path to Wray Castle 3 miles away.

Stayed at this property three times now always in December. The cottage is extremely cosy, there is a woodburner but the central heating is brilliant. Well located just outside the centre of the village but close to shops and pubs. Applerigg has been beautifully modernised to provide an excellent standard of holiday accommodation. The kitchen and bathroom are particularly spacious and well fitted. I have stayed at this property twice and noticed year on year improvements . Beautiful scenery provides a great back drop for a well positioned holiday home on the outskirts of hawkshead. The house is great, well maintained, and laid out, providing excellent accommodation for a week in the lakes. Plenty to see and do in the immediate environs.
