Barn conversion cottage enjoying a tranquil village location in Grizedale Forest, with easy access to woodland walks and two of the region’s finest lakes.

This property is located in the rural village of Satterthwaite, which benefits from a lovely pub, with its homecooked food and commitment to serving only local ales. For a larger range of facilities, the village of Hawkshead is four miles away and offers a range of pubs, shops, and National Trust properties, including the popular Beatrix Potter Gallery. The property’s woodland location means that there are plenty of lovely walks in the local area, and the Grizedale Forest Visitors’ Centre is just one mile from the cottage, and offers walking routes, a cafe, sculpture trail, children’s playground, and even a Go-Ape high ropes adventure, if you fancy a birds’ eye view of the forest.

This property is accessed by a flight of external steps which bring visitors to the raised  accommodation. The heart of the cottage is the spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, a stylish room with lovely views across rolling countryside, which can be viewed from the upholstered window seats. To one end of this room, the dining area is light and airy, and offers a table which comfortably seats four. The lounge area occupies the centre of the room, and has double aspect windows, beamed ceiling, and a cosy wood burner which makes a delightful focal point to the room. There is also a TV/DVD, and iPod dock which can be enjoyed from the comfortable sofas. The kitchen has been designed beautifully with granite work tops  and offers an electric oven, halogen hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, and washer/dryer. One of the property’s bedrooms, a king-size room, is also on this floor, as is a lovely shower room with WC. Downstairs, on the lower-ground floor, there is a second bedroom, a double, which benefits from its own en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, there is an enclosed, south facing patio area with table and chairs to the rear of the property with fuels across the fields. There is off-road parking provided for two cars and bikes can be stored in the property’s secure garage.

This is a very comfortable cottage in a small village. There are lots of walks around the village but unless you are willing to undertake a significant walk on narrow roads everything needs to be driven to. There is a pub in the village which does very good food but it is a very basic menu and the pub doesn't open everyday. For a relaxing retreat aRead moreway from hustle and bustle it is absolutely perfect because it is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Hide

Great cottage in the centre of Grizedale Forest. Very clean and well equipped, plus several good places to eat 10 minutes up the road in Hawkshead. Parking space close to the cottage is a handy benefit.

This is a good location, toward the south of the lakes, but we had good walks in the Langdales (30 min away) and Glenridding (50 min away). Excellent Go-Ape very near and the usual places of interest.

What an amazing stay we had. The cottage is very comfortable, clean, and with an eye for detail that we havent seen elsewhere. Tasteful decoration ensured that Christmas began as soon as we arrived, and the welcome package was a lovely touch. The views are beautiful and the quiet seclusion meant that we were loathe to leave at the end of our week. Read moreThe snow was an additional bonus. Hide

A fantastic cottage. Warm, nice, cosy, homely and a fantastic view! I could really live here... Even in the rainy season (November) there is enough to do. The cottage is well equiped, floor heating in the hall, 2 bathrooms, very good sized bedrooms and perfect beds and matrasses. All in all... highly recommended!!

Fabulous warm and cosy cottage that I can thoroughly recommend. Nicely decorated and appointed. Excellent location for exploring Grizedale Forest, both on foot (footpaths from the door) and only a mile to the visitor centre and cycling tracks. We had a great holiday here...even in November!

Satterthwaite is a bit remote but we knew this. You just need to be organised with your shopping for milk, bread etc as the village does not have a shop. What you get is - - a fabulous cottage with great views - peace and quiet - a great pub serving good beer and food less than 5 minutes walk away - a bridleway path leading out of the villageRead more and via a bit of a climb, linking with one of the Grizedale forest trails allowing easy off road cycling to Go Ape and the Forestry Centre at Grizedale - a circular walk from the end of the lane the cottage is on, through the woods and round to enter the village on the road passing the pub! - what's not to like?
