Attractive barn conversion cottage, contemporarily styled and yet retaining some lovely period features, located on the edge of Hawkshead village.

Hawkshead is a popular Lakeland village, with celebrated connections to Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. The village pubs both make great spots to enjoy a long lunch, or a cosy pint, while those who are looking to find out more about the heritage of the area will enjoy visiting the village’s National Trust properties. Of course, the real draw of the region is the stunning landscape, and Lake Windermere is just two miles from the cottage.

To enter this property, guests first cross the low-wall via several steps which act as a stile, giving access to the front courtyard. Once inside, the hallway brings guests to the welcoming lounge, with its cosy wood burner, soft sofas, TV and DVD player. The property’s kitchen/diner has underfloor heating, perfect first thing in the morning, and a dining table seating six. It is well-equipped with an oven, hob, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher, whilst the washing machine is kept in a separate nearby cupboard. A door from the kitchen gives access to the patio garden. One of the property’s bedroom is located on the ground-floor, a beautifully styled, romantic room with a vaulted ceiling, elegant understated furniture, chandelier light, and a double bed. This room benefits from its own TV/DVD player, as well an en-suite bathroom with a large corner bath, handheld shower, and WC. Open-tread stairs lead from the lounge up to the first floor, where there is a pretty single bedroom and a sleek, contemporary shower room. Quite steep and narrow steps take guests to the second floor where the final bedroom is located. This room is a beautiful loft room, with sloping ceilings, skylight windows, a double bed, dressing table, and TV/DVD.

Outside the property, there are two patio areas, with table and chairs, where guests are able to enjoy alfresco drinks and meals. Nearby off-road parking is provided for two cars.

  • 3 bedrooms: 2 doubles, 1 single
  • En-suite bathroom to ground floor bedroom with corner bath, handheld shower, and WC
  • First-floor shower room with WC
  • TV/DVD in lounge and the 2 double rooms
  • Wi-Fi available
  • Oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine
  • Bed linen and towels included

We had a fabulous holiday at Ducklin Cottage. A real home from home where we could relax at the end of the day and it's a nice easy walk into Hawkshead to the local pub and shop!

A lovely cottage, beautifully furnished. It felt like home rather than a cottage furnished to rent out. It was very comfortable and has a well equipped kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were good, especially the downstairs en-suite. The location was good for us, not in the village centre but just a 10 minute walk away. Oh what a lovely property. Warm, comfortable, spacious and utterly relaxing. The rooms were all well proportioned, the bathroom is vast, and we simply felt so entirely at home and well rested. Location is outstanding - we left the house and were at top of Latterbarrow 30 minutes later! - and peace reigned all around.

This cottage was ideal for our group--a baby, his parents and grandparents. Two bathrooms were a real boon, and we grandparents almost had a private wing on the ground floor. The cottage is very cosy on chilly mornings and evenings. We liked the quiet location, near enough to walk to Hawkshead in 10 minutes, and with many walks from the door.

A beautiful well appointed cottage, with lots of walking opportunities and close to local amenities! To be recommended! Ducklin is a fantastic little cottage, well appointed and with an unusual layout. We were very comfortable there and will definitely be going back. The cottage is very close to Hawkshead Village, which has a number of pubs and plRead moreaces to eat, plus a few shops. There is plenty of traditional activity to undertake with some lovely walks right on the door step, such as Latterbarrow with it's outstanding views. Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston are all short drives away, and the Sawreys (Near and Far) are a couple of miles walking distance, either by road or over Claiffe Heights. Hide
