Description

Property code: LLH39

16th century cottage located in the village of Hawkshead, with its shops, pubs, and National Trust properties, within easy driving distance of Lake Windermere.

The village of Hawkshead is renowned for its links to Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth and both literary figures are celebrated in the village’s National Trust properties. Lake Windermere and Coniston Water are both situated within five miles of the property and offer plenty of opportunities for boat rides, water sports, and scenic walks around their shorelines. For thrill seekers, the Go-Ape high ropes centre at Grizedale Forest is just over three miles away.

Guests entering this property come directly to the lounge/diner, decorated in warming colours which give this room a lovely welcoming feel. Here guests will find a large dining table, and comfortable seating from which to enjoy the cosy wood burner, TV/DVD, and CD. Moving through to the kitchen, guests will discover a contemporary, well-equipped space with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. A door from the kitchen opens out onto a small village square. Upstairs there are three pretty bedrooms, which are all decorated in an elegant understated style, giving them all a lovely restful atmosphere. The first of these rooms is on the first floor- a king-size double which has an elegant ensuite shower room. The bathroom is also located on the first floor and offers a shower over the bath and WC. Up a second flight of stairs you reach another two bedrooms a pretty twin and a single bedroom with a pull out bed for occasional use.

Outside, there is seating area to the front of the cottage, looking out over the cobble stoned street, whilst by the backdoor there is a handy shed for bike storage. A parking permit is provided for 1 car for guests to use in the main village car park.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

The cottage was in a great location in the center of Hawkshead. The bathrooms and kitchen were nicely updated and overall the cottage was clean and very pleasant. As with many of the older buildings, there were many low spots where you might hit your head if you aren’t careful and uneven floors, but this is to be expected in an older building. Overall this was a wonderful place to stay in the heart of the Lake District.

The cottage was lovely, quirky with uneven floors which caused much hilarity with our party. Lovely and clean and very warm.

The location of Lantern Cottage is perfect for a stay in Hawkshead. Kitchen is very well equipped and there was a lovely welcome gift on arrival including a pint of milk, nice touch. If you don’t fancy cooking there are some great local pubs doing lovely food.Buses to surrounding areas are regular.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. The welcome basket was a lovely touch (and much appreciated). The agency staff were also very helpful and aided in making this a very relaxing stay.

Lantern Cottage is located in the centre of Hawkshead so it was exciting to see the stalls being set up for the christmas market, which was the highlight of the weekend. Atmosphere was fabulous along with great food in all of the pubs.

Lovely quaint cottage ideally situated just off the main square in picturesque Hawkshead close to facilities ( eateries, cafes, post office & co-op) The cottage catered for our needs and our family had a great weekend

A well equipped comfortable and warm cottage. Lounge/diner and kitchen quite small but enough for us five adults & a dog. Four pubs, three+ cafes and a grocers within a few hundred yards is a boon. A washer/dryer is listed but it's actually only a washer. Providing coal for the fire was a nice touch. Be aware that there is no outside space if that's important to you: the parking is in a public car park a short distance away. We would certainly be happy to stay there again.

Excellent weekend break right in the Centre of Hawkshead Lovely, comfortable property right in the heart of Hawkshead village. The location is perfect and the log burner in the cottage was perfect to return to at the end of a day out walking.
