Beautiful 17th century country cottage, situated close to the stunning Tarn Hows, which offers accessible lakeside walks in a picturesque location.

This cottage enjoys a wonderfully quiet location, situated a mile away from the village of Hawkshead to the south and equal distance to the popular country pub to the north. 2.5 miles from the property, on the shore of Lake Windermere, visitors will find the majestic mock Gothic Wray Castle, which is a popular stop for the pleasure boats which run up and down Windermere, taking visitors to local attractions and to the towns of Ambleside and Bowness. For those who would like to try something more challenging than the local scenic walks, the mountain ranges are only a short drive away.

On entering this property, guests come to a spacious hall, to either side of which doors lead through to two spacious rooms. To the right-hand side, is the tasteful and comfortable lounge, which has a lovely relaxing atmosphere, with its exposed beams, wood burner, comfortable sofas, dual aspect windows, TV, and DVD. Crossing back across the hall, the property’s kitchen/diner is a large and light-filled room, with farmhouse style dining table seating six, an electric AGA, conventional oven and hob, microwave, American-style fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. Just next to the kitchen is a handy shower room, with WC, and this is where guests will also find the washing machine and tumble dryer. To the rear of the property, a large barn-conversion extension is the home to a family room, which is set up as a games room, with table football, TV/DVD, as well as a cosy multi-fuel stove. This room makes a great den for teenagers in the evening. Stairs from the hallway lead to the first-floor accommodation: three bedrooms and a bathroom. The first bedroom is a king-size room, whilst there is also a double room and a twin, all of which are tastefully decorated and feature the original exposed beams. The bathroom has a bath and WC.

Outside, there is a pretty flower-filled seating area to the front of the property and a separate good-sized lawn enclosed by a fence and wall, with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, a great place to relax or to play games. There is ample off-road parking for four cars.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

A lovely comfortable, cosy cottage with plenty of room, warm, welcoming Aga and wood burners, and bike storage which was very important to us as mountain bikers! It's in a great location although sadly you can't see the views from downstairs. Close to good pubs and restaurants too although too far to walk. Wonderful walks and biking from the door. This cottage worked perfectly as our base for a week of orienteering in the Lake District. We all enjoyed the table football and everyone slept well in the comfy beds. We dried our wet clothes and shoes by the aga and had some lovely walks up to Tarn Hows and down to the village.

The Lake District was at its most benign which allowed us to do all the walks and activities we intended. The cottage was as beautiful as it appeared in all the photographs with the clematis in full bloom. The Aga was fun to experiment with, but meant that in the heatwave, keeping the kitchen cool was difficult. Close to everything of interest in the lakes both young and old, fit and not so fit. Ideal setting and very good for close by dog walks. Plenty of parking. Very close to Hawkshead and its amenities with BOOTH's supermarket in Windermere a must, very well stocked and not rip off prices. Definitely returning next year.

A beautiful cozy cottage in a great location! Easy access to so many walks and Hawkshead nearby. The cottage was very warm and welcoming whilst snowing outside! Well equipped kitchen - the aga giving plenty of extra heat! The whole experience was wonderful!

I can not recommend this cottage highly enough. Its excellent location, perfect for visiting Ambleside, Keswick, Windermere. It had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. And considering it allows dogs the cottage was spotless, warm and cosy. The best thing about the cottage was the Aga, even the dog didnt want to leave. South View Cottage combined style with welcoming comfort, providing everything that we needed for our break, during which we experienced the vagaries of a Lake District Spring.
