With extensive shared gardens and grounds and direct access to the estates private lake shore Tent Lodge Cottage makes an ideal base from which to enjoy a wonderful holiday. This spectacular area has welcomed and inspired many renowned guests including Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome (author of ‘Swallows and Amazons’), Tennyson, the Victorian Poet Laureate and the painter William Turner. The awe-inspiring scenery of idyllic Coniston Water with its backdrop of the rugged Coniston Old Man mountain range will make any stay extra special. A real treat for the adventurous, this superb holiday home is ideally placed for all the attractions and outdoor activities on offer in this glorious corner of the UK but is equally perfect for those who just want to soak up the peace and quiet and relax. A short distance from the Western edge of Grizedale Forest, miles of walking and cycling trails are yours to explore. Enjoy your favourite water sports on magical Coniston Water where Donald Campbell made his water speed record attempts in the famous ‘Bluebird’. Coniston village is just over a mile away and offers a range of outdoor activity providers, shops, pubs, cafes and a highly rated Bistro. The Boating Centre is a great place from which to hire boats, take boat trips on the famous Gondola (a Victorian steam yacht) and Launches or just simply feed the ducks and enjoy an ice cream.

Historically an 18th century stable, this cottage has been sympathetically modernised to offer a unique retreat. Through the stable door from the courtyard you step into the open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. Contemporary, stylish and airy yet also benefitting from being able to curl up, this space is the ultimate for sociable and practical living. The sleek kitchen area offers an electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The living area boasts comfy sofas a TV, DVD player and a woodburning stove. This wonderful property makes a great holiday home from home perfect for spending time together and relaxing after a long day exploring. The stairs lead from the kitchen to a charming, double bedroom which offers wonderful views of the lake and to a pretty, twin bedroom overlooking the courtyard. The smart, modern bathroom is also on the first floor with over-bath shower, WC and washbasin.

Outside, Tent Lodge Cottage enjoys its own sunny, small walled garden, a great spot for alfresco dining or a refreshing drink. Beyond the garden idyllic Coniston Water will tempt you through the grounds and down to the estate’s private lake shore area which is shared with other properties on the estate - this is the place for picnics, paddling and fishing for tiddlers and if you want to bring your own sailing boat, there are jetties to tie up to. This is beautiful cottage in an idyllic location on the Lake at Coniston. Richard and Wendy have made the cottage very welcoming at Christmas/New Year with a decorated tree and wine, prosecco and nibbles on arrival. This was our second New Year at Tent Lodge cottage and would welcome the opportunity to return.

We have had the most wonderful week staying at Tent Lodge cottage. Upon arriving on a dark, cold and wet November evening the cottage was beautifully presented and pristine. We had logs ready to get the wood burning started and warm us through after an 8 hour journey. The bedrooms were cosy with plenty of space for clothes and bags and we all sleptRead more perfectly in comfortable beds. Waking up in the morning and opening the bedroom curtains was breathtaking! Views of the lake and snow capped mountains could not have been more ideal. I was there for my 40th birthday so this view really softened the blow. We just threw on some clothes and shoes and wandered down to the lake to soak in the view and atmosphere before breakfast. The changing colours of the mountain was magical. The location was perfect - peaceful but a great base to explore by foot or car. Richard was really friendly and helpful and the whole week was beyond our expectations - cold and crisp with bright winter sunshine and blue skies. Perfect - I would love to return one year, a week just wasn't enough. Hide

Great cottage with beautiful surroundings. Plenty to do even if the weather isn't great. We would recommend the Old Man of Coniston walk although its quite hard work its worth it at the end. The Bluebird Caf is also really nice. Thank you!
