Built some 200 years ago, this charming cottage has been beautifully refurbished to offer home from home accommodation in the heart of the Lake District.

Situated by the river Ea and Wheelhouse bridge, this property enjoys a peaceful location just a short walk from the main village square. Here you will find a clutch of excellent inns, cafes and restaurants including a Michelin star awarded restaurant. Set out on foot to follow one of the many walking routes in the area, which take in Hampsfell and Eggerslack Wood and the Lake District Mountains. Or why not rest your feet and hop on the Lake Windermere steamer, which winds its way for ten miles into the central fells, passing Bowness and Sawrey along the way.

The front door opens into a large hall, which steps down to the welcoming living areas. With plump sofas, a roaring wood burning stove (guests to provide their own logs), exposed ceiling beams and cosy rugs, the lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day outside. The kitchen is light and airy with a door leading out to the walled garden, while the conservatory is home to the dining area with riverside views. Upstairs there are two comfortable king-size bedrooms, both beautifully decorated with antique furnishings and charming ornaments. The bedrooms share a stylish contemporary bathroom with shower over bath.

Outside, to the front of the property, a small terraced patio area overlooks the river and meadow beyond. To the rear of the cottage, there a little walled garden with table and chairs for enjoying al fresco meals. Here you will also find a luxurious hot tub, perfect for soothing those achy muscles after a long day on foot. A small iron bridge crosses over to the opposite side of the river where there is a small private riverside bank for enjoying peaceful picnics surrounded by nature.


Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20 for up to 7 nights, £40 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20 for every week or part week thereafter.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Probably the best cottage we have stayed in.,perfect location in the centre of Cartmel next to a stream..lovely outlook! Cottage was fantastic, & we really enjoyed our time in Cartmel The cottage has everything you need & is presented to a very high standard the updates made this year are very good - new kitchen, new dining area, underfloor heating & log burner ( the photos currently on the website dont show these) Would highly recommend

Wheelhouse Cottage ticked every box for us. A lovely interior, clean and all amenities in excellent condition - we had a very cosy week even though the weather was awful. Being detached, our 2 year old was able to make as much noise as he wanted to and the enclosed garden meant our dog was safe and away from any sheep. The hot tub was also a bonus!Read more Hide

Absolutely perfect cottage for a homely relaxed break. Everything you need is readily available, the style of the cottage is very homely and modern. Great location and Cartmel is a lovely little quiet village with some great pubs and grub. Would definitely recommend.
