The glorious Isle of Purbeck on the Dorset Coast is a 60-square mile chunk of countryside and coast, part of the Jurassic Coast that gazes out onto the English Channel below. Home to beautiful towns and picture-postcard villages made of traditional Purbeck stone, its most famous resident is Corfe Castle, an 11th-century ruined hilltop fort situated just above the village of the same name. Walkers also flock to this area to enjoy the great number of walking trails around the peninsula as well as delighting in a bit of red squirrel spotting on the spectacular Brownsea Island.
The area is also a haven of gorgeous sandy and white pebble beaches including Studland with its national nature reserve, the natural harbour town of Swanage, and popular Lulworth Cove with its famous fossilised forest. One of the UK’s most iconic sights, the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door, is one of Dorset’s most photographed landmarks and a must-visit on any holiday to this beautiful area.
