The county of Warwickshire is often endearingly labelled Shakespeare Country, as it was the birthplace of William Shakespeare, England's most famous playwright. Stratford-upon-Avon was the Bard spent his life and the town still pays a great tribute to him today with its magnificent Tudor buildings and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Nearby Warwick is equally as historic, with its majestic castle. Throughout the county you will also discover countless pretty villages and miles of unspoilt countryside.
Lying just south of Warwickshire is the Cherwell Valley, just over the border into North Oxfordshire. The thriving market town of Banbury can be found here, home to a famous cross as well as the famous fruit cakes.
