This delightful detached barn is situated in the heart of the owner's 500 acre working organic dairy farm in the Somerset village of Yarlington. It is a charming location hidden in the hills near the source of the River Cam and is a short walk to the village pub. Sightseers have plenty of choice with numerous National Trust properties within a short drive, many of which have been used as filming locations such as Montacute with Sense and Sensibility, Stourhead with Pride and Prejudice and Barrington Court with Wolf Hall. Longleat with its famous Safari Park is great fun for adults and children, alternatively for those who like a flutter or simply enjoy the spectacle, Wincanton Racecourse is close by.

Upon entering the cottage guests will find an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with the well-equipped kitchen area featuring an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The lounge area with cosy corner sofa and chair which are arranged around the TV and DVD is ideal for catching up with your favourite programmes. Also on the ground floor is a useful shower room with shower and WC. On the first floor, there are three well-proportioned bedrooms one king-size, one double and one single all with differing views over the farm and surrounding area. Also on this floor, and accessed off the landing is a bathroom with shower over the bath and WC.

Venturing outside from the lounge/kitchen/diner guests can enjoy the large enclosed decked veranda with garden furniture and BBQ, perfect for alfresco dining while enjoying the splendid views over the Somerset countryside. The property has a gravel driveway providing ample off-road parking. There are farm activities by arrangement, guests are welcome to enjoy a full experience of the farm with a guided tour by the farmer, watch the cows being milked and even help feed the calves.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

Walnut Cottage is a comfortable, well equipped cottage in a beautiful location. We were welcomed with a lovely cake, milk, tea, coffee and even treats for our dog from our hosts. Make sure you bring wellies so you can wander around the farm, our daughter even helped feed the calves a couple of times, something she was thrilled to be able to do. We grew up and live in the countryside so to us this cottage is in a lovely location but others may find it too remote as there is perhaps a little too much travelling to go for days out. We had no hot water the first morning but the owner sorted it out for us! unfortunately that was all we really saw of her, an introduction at some point in our stRead moreay would have been nice as they live in such close proximity to the cottage. An idyllic setting but be prepared to drive as, apart from the fabulous pub, there is nothing nearby & tiny lanes to get in & out. Loads to do in the area though. It really is a working farm, which was fabulous & we loved seeing the cows but it was very noisy in the mornings with all the farm vehicles. Dont expect a lie in!! We had a fantastic two week stay at the cottage. Our daughter absolutely loved being so close to the cows and seeing the activity on the farmyard, tractor heaven! We chose this location as my daughter loves cows. Well you certainly get those at Walnut Cottage. Be prepared for early mornings as the cows come in for milking. The cottage was lovely, well equipped with everything we needed, be it cooking, relaxing, cleaning and entertaining (the jenga set was a laugh!). Lovely to have a big patch of grass were are dog could play about. The cottage is lovely and rural which we really liked.
