TRADITIONAL LONG HOUSE TUCKED AWAY IN THE HEART OF THE LLANTHONY VALLEY, SLEEPS 4+2

The property really was a Smithy in its time, now sensitively converted, it takes you back to a time forgotten. Thick stone walls, oak beams and flagstone floors, with an acre of country garden skirted by the River Honddu.

Abergavenny is 20 minutes by car with its castle, shops and restaurants. The historic town of Hay-on-Wye, a famous literary haven, is 30 minutes away with numerous indendent second hand book shops and gift stores. Or venture further afield to Crickhowell, Brecon or Hereford, all within the hour. Nearby attractions include Llanthony valley has lots to offer. Cistercian Abbey which is just across the country lane. The crooked church at Cymyoy is well worth a look, as is the ancient Partrishow. The Llanthony Valley offers pony trekking in the National Park, Grange Trekking in Capel y Ffin offer treks for all abilities from March – October.

The accommodation offers THREE bedrooms: 1 double with basin, 1 twin and 1 twin with 2ft 6 beds. Bathroom: with bath and WC. Shower room: with shower and WC, located in a separate building accessed via the garden. Lounge: with open fire, piano and selection of traditional games. Kitchen/diner: with electric oven and hob and microwave. Outside: an acre of garden with outdoor furniture and BBQ. Amenities: ample parking. Bed linen, towels, electric and under floor and central heating included. Regret no smoking. 1 dog welcome by arrangement. Additional info: Welcome cake on arrival. Washing machine located in a separate out building. The owners live in the attached Forge, which in no way encroaches on the privacy of the cottage or it’s gardens. Location: shop and pub within walking distance. Arrival: 4pm

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

SLEEPS 2 - 6: Three bedrooms: an oak beamed double, with basin, a twin with standard size single beds, plus small twin bedroom with 2ft 6 beds. All bedlinen and towels are included.

RELAXING: Large sitting room with open fire (logs included), traditional games, piano, lots of books, comfy seating for six. Please note The Old Smithy is 'off the beaten track' and has no WiFi or television.

DINING: Well equipped farmhouse kitchen, electric oven, electric hob, microwave, toaster and welcome cake. Traditional farm house table with settle and wooden chairs.

BATHING: Upstairs bathroom with toiletteries, towels, bath, basin, loo. A downstairs loo and outside shower, with a washing machine too.

OUTSIDE: An acre of garden with fruit trees and several outdoor seating areas. A barbeque is available, as well as boules.

PETS: 1 dog welcome by arrangement.

This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We enjoyed following the sun around the garden by taking advantage of the various seats dotted amongst the wild places. The cottage is well equipped and furnished with eclectic pieces. The Half Moon pub is just five minutes walk away and offers simple but tasty food and great beer. The nearest shoRead morep was six miles away and next to the oldest pub in Wales. Owners welcomed us with a home-made cake and are always on hand if needed. Hide

A pleasure to stay at this idyllic cottage in the small hamlet of llanthony. The cottage and garden with the stunning views of the hills and sound of the river made a perfect place to unwind. The bbq in the garden was a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, helped by no tv or internet. The evening walk by the river or up past the Read moreold Abbey with the setting sun on the hills and the sound of the sheep made a perfect end to a lovely day. Will definitely go back. Hide
