A delightful ground floor wing of a detached cottage, looking out to the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the magnificent Brecon Beacons and situated close to Abergavenny, renowned as Wales’ culinary centre.

Gilwern is a sweet village with pubs, shops and a picturesque canal all within walking distance. It sits on the edge of the Blaenavon World Heritage site and you can enjoy country walks right from your doorstep or perhaps take a visit to the historic town of Abergavenny full of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Visit nearby galleries, museums, castles and vineyard or take a trip on a narrow boat which you can see passing by at the bottom of the garden! Other attractions in the area include Blaenavon Iron Works, The Big Pit or star gazing at the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre or why not try horse riding, golf, climbing and kayaking on the Usk and Wye.

Enter through the stable door into the hallway which leads straight into the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Located off the hallway is the master bedroom which is light and airy and has a super-king-size zip-and-link bed (which can be made up as a twin on request). There is a wet room with shower and WC. Head from the kitchen to the comfortable, traditionally furnished lounge where you can relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner effect electric fire and watch SkyTV (with basic package) or a movie on the DVD and head out to the garden through the French doors.

Outside there is an enclosed covered veranda, with hot tub, gas BBQ and garden furniture looking out to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Here you can cook or simply relax and unwind whatever the weather. Beyond this are large shared grounds that lead all the way down to the canal. Private off-road parking and covered area for bikes available. There is an exercise paddock available for dogs.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

A wonderful cottage with a hot tub with unbelievable views of sugar loaf mountain. The cottage itself is just lovely, everything was very comfortable. There is parking on site thats gated right outside the property. You really need to go to the bottom of the hosts garden, its just lovely, especially the caravan thats covered in ivy. You can have a Read morecuppa there too. The canal right in front of the cottage is very relaxing, and if you walk 200 yards from the cottage, it takes you to the canal. Hide

Lovely cottage with a view to die for! Hot tub with a view of sugar loaf mountain bathed in sunshine - what more could you want. Lovely position for walking along the canal or climbing the mountains and access to the Black Mountains. Fantastic cottage for dogs which can be exercised in secure paddocks.

We loved this cottage. Pippa and John are great hosts and the property has everything. The view to Sugar Loaf from the hot tub was memorable. Access to the Beacons is easy and the canal is literally at the bottom of the garden, with good towpaths for walking and cycling. The dog had a great time too, running around in his own paddock. Lovely, cosy cottage, well equipped with beautiful views from the decking across to sugar loaf mountain. The cottage is within the owner's land/gardens that are peaceful and relaxing, good area for walking your dog. Good access to the canal system and plenty of walks along the canals in each direction. Quite close to the towns Abergavenny and CrickRead morehowell both worth a visit, short walk down the canal to the village centre of Gilwern. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. Hide

A very comfortable well equiped cottage with fabulous views of Sugar Loaf Mountain which is well worth the climb. The hot tub was a bonus at the end of the day after long walks along the Monmouth Canal situated at the end of the garden and paddocks. The location is excellent for exploring South Wales with plenty of beautiful walks with waterfalls only a short drive away. We were made to feel so welcome by the hosts , the cottage was lovely and cosy , the hot tub and views are amazing. We would truly recommend staying at the little Orchard retreat for a wonderfull and relaxing break.

Lovely stay at little orchard, Pippa showed us around and how to use the hot tub she was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely surprise with the home made welsh cakes and brith bran slices when we got to the cottage and the 'secret garden' and animals (plus very excitable dog!) was a bonus to see as well!! Beautiful views from the enclosed private balcony and hot tub. Great hosts, incredibly friendly. Lovely surroundings to take your dogs out on walks. Small shops and pubs within walking distance. Highly recommended for a countryside stay away from all of work and life distractions.

A really beautiful part of wales to relax in overlooking Sugar loaf mountain in the Brecon Beacons. Pippa was very helpful and welcoming in getting us settled. Lovely walks on the canal in either direction or a short journey into the hills for more stunningly beautiful areas to explore. The hot tub at the end of the day was utter bliss.
